At Evamoso, we believe that sustainably sourced clothing should be a given, not a speciality. We believe you shouldn’t have to look hard to buy comfortable, stylish, everyday clothes, created with their footprint in mind. To put it simply, we want to be the new norm in athleisure.
Evamoso clothing is designed for every side of you - not just working out. Simple, beautifully-fitting separates made from natural and recyclable fabrics in wearable shades, they are created to work in harmony with every aspect of your life. What makes Evamoso sustainable? The use of technical but tactile fabrics, such as recycled polyester and moso bamboo yarns, throughout the entire collection.
What we mean when we say we are being sustainable and ethical.
Now, let's be honest. The term being sustainable has, well, been seriously overused and often without the right knowledge of what on earth they're talking about. For this reason, we thought it crucial to the ethos of Evamoso to clearly state what WE mean by sustainability.
For us, we abide by the following:
To maintain and fully respect the definition of sustainable clothing throughout the ethos of Evamoso. Brundtland Commission articulated what has now become a widely-accepted definition of sustainability: “to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
Sustainable clothing refers to fabrics derived from eco-friendly resources, such as sustainably grown fibre crops or recycled materials.
Along with this, we will also maintain and respect the definition of ethically produced clothing throughout the values of Evamoso. ‘Ethical fashion represents an approach to the design, sourcing and manufacture of clothing which maximises benefits to people and communities while minimising impact on the environment.’ (EFF Ethical Fashion Forum, 2017)
“If you describe something as ethical, you mean that it is morally right or morally acceptable.’ (Collins English Dictionary)
How is Evamoso doing their bit?
What we quickly realised was that even by having the intention of being sustainable or ethical we were on the right path. But as we all know, we can easily get tempted to take shortcuts either to save money or time. Therefore, we have laid out 3 ground principles of what makes us a sustainably sourced and ethically minded brand:
- Fabric Supplier: We work with a supplier in Italy who produce 100% recycled polyamide/polyester for our range of leggings
- Labour standards for manufacturing: Our manufacturer is based in Portugal which adheres to the labour standards as stated by the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code (relating to working hours, living wage, child labour, forced labour, discrimination, harassment, health & safety – as referenced in national and international law.)
- We use OEKO-Tex certified dyes for our fabric thus limiting the amount of chemical processing during the dying phase.
Recycled Leggings...say whaaaat?
If you choose to buy recycled goods you are making a small step in closing the loop on fast fashion.
The fashion industry is slowly starting to wake up to the fact that we need to put a stop to producing more waste. The Ellen MacArthur foundation produced a report 'A New Textile Economy: Redesigning Fashion's Future' which comes back with the startling fact that 50% of clothes sent to the landfill could be recycled.
However, there is hope.
Although there is no denying we are a retail fashion brand and consequently are producing more goods into the environment; we choose to produce in a sustainable manner (from sourcing the fabric, manufacturing the goods and lastly to what packaging we use) and with ethical standards being upheld within the factories that we use.
Why not start here and get yourself a pair of Evamoso leggings? Ok, that sounded too sales-y...BUT we mean it; by choosing to buy more consciously you will keep your leggings for longer and do your bit for the environment whilst looking and feeling pretty damn great!
